My boys SLRN in the D'ni numeric system is the D'ni symbols for;
3 16 5 5 14 12 14
I couldnt type it out as I dont have AnonMoos' D'ni font. Im sure it looks very nice though. Im very pleased.
My lovely friend who did this for Me said,
'Researching the Base 25 content of a fictional language's counting system is too geeky for words - I approve'

C'mon, guys, the equation in the graphic is to provide a basic explanation for a non-decimal numerical system, but you wouldn't normally manually calculate base-25 that way -- it's very easy to write a program to automatically convert numbers to a different base. There's one on-line at this location (turned up through a quick Google search). Pull down "Base 10 (dec)" in the box at the upper left of the form, type in "503916874" on the top line, and you get "21F0GOO" down in the Base 25 line, which is actually the same as "2,1,15,0,16,24,24" in the graphic (just using a different notation, with letters of the alphabet used as digits after "9"), since F is the sixth letter in the alphabet and 6+9=15, G is the seventh letter in the alphabet and 7+9=16, and "O" is the fifteenth letter in the alphabet and 15+9=24. Sorry I didn't use letters (instead of numbers greater than 10) in the graphic, which would make it easier to convert the results of the form to symbols.
Anyway, the only reason I mentioned D'ni numerals at all was as kind of a desperate maneuver to be able to offer some credible alternative (any credible alternative) to bar-codes and pseudo-concentration camp tattoos...
You can download a D'ni font from the URL's given on the image page (and other sites as well), but you have to include them in a JPEG graphic to get the symbols to display on this site...

Mistress Tiara -- Yes, in the on-line base conversion form, decimal "890712189" becomes base-25 "3G55ECE", which is the same as "3,16,5,5,14,12,14" in non-letter notation. To be able to show you how that looks in actual D'ni numeral symbols, I would have to create an image and upload it, and wait up to seven days for it to be approved...

Oh no thats too much work for you. Thankyou for all the info though. I think it looks rather nice when done.
My boy is probably now wondering if another tattoo is pending..... *~*Mistress Tiara*~*

I think I can see where the OP is coming from. I can understand the desire to objectify and to mark as property, and the desire to be so marked.
A slave number is one way of doing this, as would be a price.. A bar code is simply a commercial way of representing data and a transient one at that. My concern is that in twenty years time kids will look at a bar code and go "Whats that?"
At the moment bar codes are cool, iconic even, but they are already being replaced by FRID tags.
I would quite like to be tagged, I can think of several functional uses for it. The problem is a tag cant be seen.
When all produce is tagged, the checkout conveyor belt in the supermarket will be replaced by an archway you wheel your trolley through. (Ever wondered why the latest trollies are plastic?) The tags registering with the epos computer and the total cost displayed. It would be really cool to come up on the bill as "Slave £0.00p" |

Interesting. All technologies become outdated though, and the rate at which they do is being made shorter and shorter. Any option will have an expiration in terms of contemporary relevance. Bar codes have a fairly strong image in political art (and some literature) at least so there will always be that as a reference point.
And if kids dont recognise a bar code in twenty years it will just be a sign that those tattooed are 'old' slaves, marked with the iconography relevant to the time of their marking - which will I suspect even more 'dehumanizing' and powerful at marking what they are.

If ever there was a powerful dehumanising mechanism, it would be a child (or group of kids) letting rip with a tirade of schoolroom insults; I wonder if they will be the same in twenty years from now. No need to so much as think of barcodes and the like then.
Proccie,
As you can see, I'm a Master - but check out here to see My old slave profile, and My barcode is half way down the page.
Whilst it's no longer valid in terms of My no longer being a slave, to Me it is very much valid in so much it's a big part of My own history in about where I came from as a person in 'My own right', and I'd wouldn't consider getting rid of it, having switched.
The questions though? Yeah, they're, err..amusing; I give allsorts of answers, and watch a few jaws drop when I walk away, because sometimes, the same 'does it scan', 'how much are ya worth' questions get a bit tiring; I had one ask Me what does it mean, and she got the full answer - and the crowd actually took an interest, no ridicule for what it was worth. Almost bizarre.
If the artwork had been done slightly more accurately it would scan, I suppose, but what can ya say about a cross-eyed back-street ex-Paratrooper with a tattooing gun in his hand? Master's l'il one®(her Rights are Mine in reserve)

Master LOVED the idea of the barcode! When i found this site, Master immediately told me to register. i later purchased a barcode id tag from http://www.barcodeart.com/ using my slrn and i also purchased one that says "slave" on it. they both scan, although at walmart and target when Master scans me with their self-help scanners i come up as "item not found, see manager" Master giggles and says, "Can't buy ya here! Should I go see the manager??" yes W/we are a sight to see out in public. i had looked into have the barcode tattooed on me, but my tattooists told me it would be very difficult to make it true to the real one. plus, with my weight fluctuations it could affect the scanability. i will have the number tattooed on me at some point; Master has not decided on a suitable location yet though. the barcode makes me feel more like property, which rocks my socks.Y/you are never more alive as when Y/you are at risk.

barcodes!! bit silly arn't they?
Not at all. They're modern stuff. What about if there were some of (consensual) slave trading -- then them barcodes could be very useful and hot. Not so silly though, them barcodes and numbers are not for me as well. I am not a number... Yet maybe it could be cool with a tag. I just couldn't take a barcode tattoo or being addressed as a number. |
