So I went off to read up again on Maslow to see what she was seeing in it ... and it is striking - see for yourself here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow`s_hierarchy_... Within the description of an actualised person (and which Carolyn rightly transforms from self-actualised to Master-actualised) there are some interesting characteristics. According to Maslow, the tendencies of self-actualizing people are as follows: 1. Awareness efficient perception of reality freshness of appreciation peak experiences ethical awareness 2. Honesty philosophical sense of humour social interest deep interpersonal relationships democratic character structure 3. Freedom need for solitude autonomous, independent creativity, originality spontaneous 4. Trust problem centered acceptance of self, others, nature resistance to enculturation - identity with humanity and that last leapt out at me. Resistance to enculturation. Sounds familiar, no? All the work that Masters do to free us of cultural and societal strictures? So far from an unhealthy and unethical lifestyle, we are living and working towards the highest state of being that Maslow envisaged? Wish the papers would print this instead of their usual salacious nonsense. I rather liked it and wanted to share. I know it rings bells in my real life with J for me. anjuli Edited to tidy layout. This is really WYRD - spelt with the old spelling on purpose-- i was just thinking of Maslow's hierachy in terms of something else. That was specifically the Church Master was ordained in and how it has it's own welfare program that extensively enables the unemployed, disabled, elderly and other poor to know they will be taken care of. Maslow's pyramid of self-actualization shows that the physical needs must be taken care of before the mental/emotional needs and i forgot all the steps on it, but , only when those are fulfilled, the a person can become "self-actualized". And i was just thinking how smart it was that this particular Church realized that before this theory was proposed by Maslow, caring for their F/folks physical needs was always part of their sect; however, it really became centralized durint the GREAT (now everyone, altogether "What was so great about it?) "depression" in the 20's early 30's before WW2. And i got thinking of that due to a comment on the news that our U.S economy may be very close to another one. then i come back on here, thunder-storms having passed for now, and see you've posted soething on Maslow's pyrimidal Hierachy of Needs and Self-Actualization - eerie, i mean to the twilight zone.
