To Ring or Not To Ring? (13)

I'm new here, so please excuse me if this isn't in the right place, or posted correctly or something.

I come looking for opinions because Master is looking into buying me a collar from Silverfoot (http://www.bondagecollars.com)and I was looking for 2 things.

a) Opinions/experiences from those of you who have dealt with him.

and more importantly:

b) We're looking into one of the non-screw down collars (one with a lobster clasp, in case I need to get it off in cases of emergency, I'm a severe asthmatic,) and we are stuck on wether to get an O-ring attatched to it or not. We both really want one, but we also are mainly buying this collar for my day-to-day wear in the vanilla world, so I don't want something that screams "kink!" Also, I don't want to be faced with a lot of questions (especially with those from my mother, who we currently reside with.) I had an idea for a custom one that has a jewel that can be taken out and a ring put in its place, but Master has yet to email Silverfoot to see if that is even possible.

Please and thank you in advance, and I'm sorry this is so long!!

At one point in history, I had a brief rally of discussion with this guy, and I found him to be less than I'd expect for someone I was going to do any knd of business with, so I didn't in the end; I know there have been others here who have felt a certain 'lacking' in professionalism, but I'll leave the individual comments to them, because they are from their own experiences.

Now, I'm going to make a very strong suggestion, but of cours, it's your M's choice in the end; take a look at this collar . It's the 'Magnetic Turian Collar' by VadFarkas. If you're Asthmatic, it will negate the need for a key since they don't actually 'lock', given that, believe Me, lobster claw clasps can be seriously unforgiving and fiddley in an emergency (My Girl and I are both Epileptic, so an emergency 'is' possible..), lest the jewellery they belong to becomes irreparably damaged as a result of trying to get them undone (when you're trying to get your breath in your case I suppose..). Even if you were to have a fully locking one with a tamper-proof screw, they'd still be quicker to get off than a lobster claw; when you get flustered, and you're up against it, you'll be fingers and thumbs, and struggling; the key - in that screw FITS - every time. I've tried the differences out many times; and I have a physical disability to deal with affecting My hands; so that must tell you something in itself.

Perhaps weigh it up aginst how difficult some people find it to thread a needle, against hold a screwdriver; that's 'why' you should consider against a lobster claw clasp..

The absolute beauty of the collar I suggested, is that a) it can be gotten off in a flash, b) it's that rigid, that it won't obstruct your breathing in any case to the point where you'd have to take it off anyway.

Your other consideration of being considered 'kink' is always a funny thing; My Girl comes from a very vanilla family, and hasn't taken her collar off more than once in any situation - no-one ever notices she's even got the thing on; it's like it just doesn't exist or it's like a big heavy necklace to them. As for the questions, they never come; you'll get to wonder if they ever will...odd that.

Contact Vad at Ring of Steel , and I'm also fairly sure he'd be able to accomodate your needs of having a special stone incorporated into the collar, along with any other requirements you may need - 'o' rings and the like. His work is really something special, and it's seriously worth holding a discussion with him about, rather than having a lesser quality 'had-to-make-do' piece.

Maybe in any case, you should also consider the thought that collars don't necessarily 'have to' go around your neck. It might be seen as the best to some, but isn't necessarily prudent in some cases. Moreover, a collar doesn't 'have to' go around a part of your body, it can go on; a tattoo, for example.

I'm just chucking ideas at ya :-)

Best of luck in your search, and I suspect you made a good decision in asking about the other site before purchasing...

I would like to second the recommendation for Vad Farcus. He was thoroughly professional, had the order out immediately, and was an all-around joy to do business with besides being a great person.

Slightly off topic...

Ya know, someone should make an O-ring "slide" for these kinds of collars. A slide is a pendent that slides onto the necklace, or, in this case, the collar. It could be put on for functions/events and taken off for every day. Certainly it'd be strong enough for a leash.

They do at a few places. A lot of the ones linked from here do. Axmar has one that I'm considering buying in the future.

My collar has one. It's actually one of a pair of eternity collars with a slide and D ring. J got mine here in the UK but I'm sure you can find them.

Thanks everyone. We've decided not to get an o-ring (even though I really like Masterfiremaam's idea!) But are still looking into purchasing from Silverfoot because we like the style and lightness of those more. *shrugs* Ultimately, its up to Master though.

I'm still looking for opinions/experiences, be they positive or negative, so please keep them coming!

Master & i got my collar from VadFarkas, and i can't say enough about the service W/we received! mine has steel rings that hang from it, and they are removeable.Their magnetic one sounds like a good option for Y/you, although i also have asthma so mine is larger than normally needed to accomodate when my throat swells.

A funny thing happened yesterday... i was at a store making a purchase, and the male cashier commented, "your necklace is very interesting." i said, "thank you." He said, "i didn't say it was pretty, i said it was interesting!" i said, "um, ok, thanks, i guess." He said, "well, it is pretty, but i have never seen one like it before." i said, "probably because it's NOT a necklace!" and i walked away. my friend that was with me (and behind me in line) said that afterward, the guy said, "what is she somebody's prisioner??" and my friend replied, "yes, yes she is." and left it at that. go figure.

Y/you are never more alive as when Y/you are at risk.

What a nice thread to come back to after a long absence. Thank you MasterS70,tangie and 173-682-895 for the kind words. And to sinfullypure, I hope you will find something that is just right for you also. I've said this before. Wearing a collar is like getting glasses, you think everyone is looking at you but it is in your mind and most people do not even notice like MasterS70 has stated above. My wife has worn a collar of some sort for over 30 years and never had a negative remark made to her. She wears them proudly as does 173-682-895 and that has a lot to do with the way others perceive you. I hope this helped you.

I think it has a lot to do with how you normally dress and look, whether a more obvious collar's going to stand out.

If you work in a professional environment, have your hair in a conservative, blow-dried bob and wear slacks and silk blouses or Laura Ashley dresses, then people *are* going to think it's a little strange when you suddenly turn up with a steel collar or something that has an obvious dangling O-ring. A subtle, elegant collar like some of the ones from Bondage Collars may be the ticket for you in that case. You could always start without the O-ring and add one later when people are used to seeing the collar on you.

Now I not only live in a pretty liberal area but have purple hair and several highly visible piercings and wear T-shirts, jeans and wafflestomper boots most of the time. My personal style has always been kind of eclectic so people who know me accepted my Turian style collar as another one of my quirks, even when the big O-ring appeared on it. And for people newly meeting me, it meshes well enough with my general appearance that it seems to fly under the radar a lot.

If it's feasible for you and your master would approve, something to consider might be a general shift in clothing or hairstyle a while before you start wearing your collar in public. It could be as extreme as dying your hair blue or getting a facial piercing, or it could be a less conservative haircut and style of clothing. If you shift to an appearance a collar would blend in more with, people won't notice so much when the collar makes its appearance a couple months later.

The thing you have to remember about girls is that the hyperfluid bearings under the camshafts can be miscalibrated along either axis, so regular maintanence is required to keep resonance in the titanium casing from causing abrasions against the primary sprocket joists.

Hi

I'm new here too so forgive me if I make any accidental faux-pas... or however it's spelt :)

My first bought collar was from Silverfoot... I had one of the silver 2 screw types and I have to say it was beautiful - beautiful to look at, comfortable to wear

However... I'm a bit disabled and end up in and out of hospital a bit so had to take it off a couple of times for operations ... and this is the downside... taking them off and on even only a couple of times really messes up the screw holes and my collar is now un-wearable.

We did buy another one from him and the same thing happened again... so if you don't intend taking one off more than once or twice I would happily recommend him.

Other people have mentioned his erm... approach and we did find him a bit ... hard to talk to in as much as he said what he had to and no more if that makes sense.

Now I wear a different style of collar and have more than one... one of them can be taken off without catches or locks as it simply pulls apart in an emergency (or in a hospital!) as it uses a tension lock (which can be opened and closed constantly) and my other one is lockable.

Phew... my very first post now done... don't know why I was worried and left it so long :)
