Is there a reason people feel the need to do the Y/you W/we O/our thing instead of regular english?

For someone with reading disabilities, such as dyslexia, I find it almost impossible to get through paragraphs with out skipping over sentances and words which make it so when I respond, I might not have gotten the whole gist of the post...

I guess its just me. I just wanted to say something because I would be more likely to respond to posts if they didn't include that.

I guess it's the usual answer... because their Masters wish them to?

Honestly? I find it distracting too but there are loads of examples of things we (generally) do that involve a minor massacre of proper english and punctuation, and I personally find the usually bad usage of third person far more irritating and horrible to read than all the others.

However I can appreciate the problem if you have dyslexia to cope with too.

Those who write without paras must drive you bonkers and they certainly don't encourage reading even by those of us without vision or cognitive issues to deal with.

That said, if it's a part of the training and dynamic then I guess it's tough on the rest of us and they don't get all the answers they could.

Yeah -- I know there are also numerous visually impaired slaves and Masters who are on this site.. I can imagine that having their computers trying to read that stuff out loud to them must make it damn near impossible to decipher.

I don't mind third person if it is grammatically correct. (I can read it no problem!) but bad third person also takes me time to decipher.

I also find text talking and 1337 5p34k impossible to read because of my dyslexia.

I know its often part of the training for some... But, if people wish a reply are more likely to get responses, they could maybe leave it out?

Just so those of us with reading disabilities, or visual impairment issues.. or those who get so annoyed with it they just skip it... can read and have more incentive to post.

(Not bashing, or putting them down, just trying to explain why regular English/grammar might make it more likely to get more responses to the posts.)

hmm seem to be a few girls i can sympathize with on this site.

i think its like a manners thing, or politeness.

but yes i get it too, i often skip things like that, or dont read them due to also being dyslexic, and bad speller, and grammar. although i do alright with sms or text as some of you call it, and L33T.=, but then thats the brain, if i remember you only read the first and last letter the brain fits in the rest.

although thank god for firefox google toolbars spellchecker.

Hi Jakesemma

Obviously from the responses it's not just you ... I have also wondered how other people 'see' it.

I find it hard to follow too sometimes... but not for the same reason.

When I was younger I was a graphic designer and was also trained in proof reading... mostly because the semi-retired proof-reader on one of the magazines I worked on had spent his life on Fleet Street in London and was an absolute stickler for everything... punctuation, grammar... you name it.

Now every time I read anything any errors or extras jump out at me, and whilst I 'can' read the text my mind goes straight into proof mode and I then find it hard to follow the wording and lose some of the meaning...

I usually have to read it a couple of times to block it out enough to get what's being asked or commented on.

Reading any John Norman books gets me into the same mode and I have to read a couple of pages at least before I can start to get into the story and turn off the compulsion to get a red pen :)

M also has the same problem but with the same reason as yourself... he's dyslexic and struggles too.

I have checked this post for errors but I'm tired so any mistakes will have to be changed tomorrow :)

Take care

Lorii
